Specialist Support & Partnerships
Expertise that strengthens community-led energy
WE Share is grounded in community knowledge, participation, and leadership. Specialist support is included where it strengthens what the community is building — adding technical insight, research input, or regulatory awareness without compromising community control.
Partnerships are welcomed when they uphold our values, support community benefit, and reinforce transparent, local decision-making.
Community Expertise at the Core
- Local skills and lived experience guide priorities
- Community members lead; specialists support
- Real-world local insight and needs drive innovation
Stewardship begins with those who live here
Research & Academic Contributors
WE Share collaborates with the University of Auckland for applied research in:
- Energy system modelling
- Understanding load and generation behaviour
- Evaluating community energy scenarios
This helps ensure decisions are informed, responsible, and grounded in best practice. These relationships are advisory and values-led.
Innovation Partners & Technical Advisors
WE Share may draw on energy innovators when their tools or expertise:
- Strengthen community resilience
- Support transparent, ethical data use
- Improve flexibility and local value flows
Support may include modelling, digital tools, or system insights — always on community terms.
Regulatory Awareness & Sector Engagement
WE Share maintains awareness of New Zealand’s regulatory environment to ensure future models can operate responsibly. An application has been submitted to the Electricity Authority’s Power Innovation Programme; the application is currently under consideration.
Engagement with regulators or sector bodies does not imply partnership or endorsement.
Industry Interface
WE Share talks with industry experts when it helps support community-led innovation and safe participation. This includes:
- Encouraging practical, community-aligned innovation across new ideas, tools, and participation models
- Making sure systems are safe and work as expected
- Understanding how the wider electricity system behaves
- Helping the community take part in the energy system responsibly
These interactions are focused and practical, and are designed to support community decision-making while maintaining WE Share’s independence.
Future Partnership Pathways
As WE Share grows, there are opportunities for aligned contributors whose work:
- Improves equity and resilience
- Supports transparent community benefit
- Contributes positively to community goals
Partnership is welcomed, especially when it supports shared community goals.
