About WE Share

Power With Purpose. Community at the Core.

WE Share is a community-led initiative developing a fairer, more resilient way for people to participate in the energy transition. Our focus is simple: ensure everyone in the community—not only those with resources—can take part in a future shaped by shared benefit, local resilience, and transparent, values-aligned governance.

What WE Share Does

WE Share provides a community-first framework that enables people to:

  • Participate in clean energy on fair and accessible terms
  • Strengthen longterm local resilience
  • Learn and act together across households, businesses, and community facilities
  • Operate within valuesbased, transparent decision-making processes
  • Keep local benefit, voice and influence anchored within the community

This work begins on Waiheke Island and is designed to spread to communities everywhere.

A New Approach to Community Energy

WE Share isn’t introducing new hardware – it’s introducing a new way for communities to organise, participate in, and benefit from energy systems.

Instead of energy participation being shaped by commercial templates, WE Share offers a community-shaped model where:

Community values guide decisions
Consent-based decision-making ensures choices reflect the wellbeing of the community and uphold independence, transparency and keeping things fair for everyone.

Local benefit stays local
Financial, social, and resilience benefits circulate within the community rather than flowing outward.

Everyone has a pathway to participate
Homeowners, renters, businesses, innovators, and supporters all have entry points based on their circumstances and aspirations.

Technology follows community needs
Systems evolve through real-world learning, careful testing, and feedback—rather than predetermined external designs.

Ethical data stewardship is built in from the start
Data from the project is handled locally, with clear community-aligned protections that respect privacy and consent.

This is not simply “solar for households.”
It is a community-aligned, community-shaped energy participation model that strengthens resilience, fairness, and the community’s ability to take part and shape outcomes.
