Solar & Battery

Power from Every Rooftop

Solar and battery systems help households, schools, and community buildings play an active role in a more local, resilient energy future. These systems let people produce and use their own clean energy — and, when they choose, take part in wider community-aligned initiatives.

The Essentials

Generate Locally

Solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into clean electricity for use on site.

Store Smartly

Batteries hold excess energy for later use, day or night.

Choose How You Participate

When your system produces more than you need, you choose how that value is used — including keeping it, storing it, or contributing to community-aligned projects if you wish.

Support Peak Times

Smart use of solar and batteries can help reduce pressure during high-demand periods. For participants, this may include using stored energy at peak times or accessing retail options that reward flexibility.

Community Benefits

When many homes and community sites use solar and batteries, the island can gain greater resilience, stronger local value, and improved energy stability — all without anyone giving up their own benefit.

Why It Matters ?

Every solar and battery installation adds to Waiheke’s overall energy capacity. Across the community, these systems can reduce pressure on the central grid, lower emissions over time, and help keep more value circulating locally. The more rooftops that participate, the greater the potential for resilience and shared benefit — always guided by each participant’s own comfort and choices.

Built for People and Place

Quality and safety matter. WE Share encourages the use of SEANZ-accredited installers and proven technology so participants can trust the performance and long-term value of their own systems.
Note: WE Share does not install systems or certify providers — participants choose the installers they prefer.

Community in Action

Many Waiheke households are now joining the next stage of the solar + battery rollout — building on earlier installations and creating the scale needed for future community energy benefits. This phase gives participants access to community-negotiated pricing through aligned suppliers — a level of affordability not normally available to individual households. Households can access new systems through WE Share–aligned suppliers offering preferred community pricing. Each installation strengthens Waiheke’s ability to manage energy locally — improving resilience, reducing peak stress, and keeping more value on the island. Participation is always opt-in — households keep full control and decide exactly how their system is used.
