Commercial & Funding Partners
Working with partners who share our commitment to fair, transparent, and community-led energy — turning shared goals into real-world impact.
WE Share operates as a community-first framework that welcomes collaboration with commercial and funding partners whose business objectives align with social and environmental impact.
Our partnership with Ecotricity demonstrates how community and commercial interests can align within an open, transparent, and fair framework.
WE Share also recognises Vector’s essential role as the local network operator. While there is no formal partnership at this stage, WE Share maintains full compliance with Vector’s network requirements and regulatory obligations, and maintains an open invitation for future collaboration where it supports community benefit and contributes to collaborative progress within New Zealand’s evolving distributed generation environment.
Infrastructure & Innovation Partners
WE Share recognises that commercial collaboration is essential for scaling community energy.
We actively work with operational and technical partners — including those focused on grid flexibility, data integration, microgrids, and storage innovation — to ensure the pilot remains compliant, connected, and future-ready.
- Current example: Ecotricity (electricity retailer and VPP innovation partner).
- Recognised stakeholders: Vector (lines company and network operator).
- Future partners may include Flex service providers, microgrid technology innovators, and smart-data and demand-response collaborators. Each partner relationship is governed through transparent agreements that align with the WE Share Community Power Foundation documents, ensuring that community outcomes remain central while partners’ commercial obligations are respected.
Funding & Finance Partners
Philanthropic funders, social-impact investors, and ethical financiers play a crucial role in enabling community power to grow.
WE Share invites funders who wish to:
- Co-invest in community battery systems or shared storage.
- Support Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) models that return value to the community.
- Develop lease-to-own frameworks that allow local ownership of renewable infrastructure.
- Provide pilot acceleration or replication funding to extend the model beyond Waiheke. These partners enable community assets to be deployed faster and at scale — creating tangible social, environmental, and reputational value while maintaining WE Share’s community-first structure.
