Values Steward
PURPOSE
Values Stewards serve as the ethical and cultural guardians of WE Share. They uphold the initiative’s founding kaupapa, ensure governance processes reflect shared values, and safeguard the integrity of participation. Values Stewards help resolve tensions, interpret principles, and reinforce trust across the project.
This role does not wield authority over decisions — instead, it protects the conditions under which safe, values-aligned decisions can be made.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Steward the WE Share Charter and advise on alignment with shared values
- Act as a first-line responder for concerns relating to conduct, culture, or process integrity
- Monitor consent-based processes for fairness, facilitation quality, and community safety
- Help manage community feedback and organize response summaries (e.g. quarterly digest)
- Advise the Governance Circle on cultural risks or breakdowns in trust
- Escalate serious breaches to the appropriate process or resolution pathway
ATTRIBUTES & COMPETENCIES
- Deep commitment to WE Share kaupapa and inclusive community-building
- Skilled in listening, mediation, and process neutrality
- Respected as a values-aligned presence in the community
- Able to work with ambiguity, complexity, and differing worldviews
- Familiarity with consent-based and restorative practices is beneficial
STRUCTURE & SUPPORT
- Nominated by the Governance Circle and/or community expressions of interest
- Participates in regular check-ins with other Values Stewards
- Contributes to refinement of the Living Governance Framework
- Supported by documentation, peer exchange, and cultural advisory networks
